Back to School Numbers

Texas students are heading back to school this week, and just based on the photos posted on Facebook, they are a fine looking group of young people!

Here are a few numbers about Texas public schools for you to consider:

• Texas has 8,044 schools plus 482 charter schools for a total of 8,526 schools.
• Texas has 4,778,688 students plus 133,697 in charter schools, for a total of 4,912,385.
• Texas teachers number 326,162 FTEs plus 8,714 at charter schools, for a total of 334,876 FTE teachers in the state.
• About half of our students are Hispanic.
• Almost 60 percent are economically disadvantaged.
