Performance Holding Steady

The change from the old test to the new tests caused many to express concern about students’ performance.  A comparative study by TEA seems to show that performance did not take a dip.

According to Education News:

… an analysis from the Texas Education Agency released Tuesday showed that in elementary and middle school grades, the passing rates generally would have stayed steady — with some slight ups and downs — had the students taken the old Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.

“If communities have a concern that there has been a decline in academic performance because some of the STAAR scores are low, this information can be used to reassure them that progress is being made in most grades and subjects,” TEA spokeswoman Debbie Ratcliffe said.
